Once you have eaten in our restaurant or stayed in our hotel rooms at La Capannina, if you are thinking about planning an extended trip to explore the area, we have gathered some information that you might find interesting. Whether it is walking, cycling, hiking or relaxing, we have it all on our doorstep!
Garfagnana (with principal towns of Castelnuovo di Garfagnana and Barga) is a historical and geographical region of central Italy, part of the province of Lucca in Tuscany. It lies between the Northern Apennines' main ridge to the north-east and the Alpi Apuane to the west, making it almost entirely mountainous with a luscious and green terrain, providing some spectacular views.
In addition to the great food and wine to discover and enjoy, you won’t be short of things to do: from hill walking, picnics in amazing settings, taking in the magnificent historical sights, sitting in a piazza drinking a cappuccino or chilling on a sandy beach with an Aperol spritz - this region has it all!
Whilst Roggio is in Garfagnana with lots to explore, Lucca, Florence and Siena are in easy reach by car or train.
Happy planning!
